Moscow Hosts Key Talks Highlighting Strategic Turkmen-Russian Cooperation

A high-level meeting in Moscow between Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has highlighted the intensive growth of bilateral relations and the importance of sustained top-level political dialogue.

Lavrov noted that such exchanges allow for trust-based discussions on expanding cooperation, deepening the strategic partnership, and sharing assessments on international politics, Central Asian developments, and the work of organizations like the UN, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.

Highlighting the role of intergovernmental commissions and official visits, Lavrov referenced Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Nokerguly Atagulyev ’s participation in the International Environmental Conference in Altai on July 25 and the Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev attending the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Avaza.

"Our talks in Ashgabat gave a significant impetus to bilateral relations. The 2025-2026 Inter-Foreign Ministry Cooperation Program is already underway. On August 20, we conducted a review of the legal and contractual framework-technical but crucial work for building our relations on a solid international-legal basis," Lavrov added.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation also featured prominently. Recently, a Turkmen-Russian concert was held at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the International Year of Peace and Trust, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.

Following the meeting, a press conference confirmed that Russia and Turkmenistan plan to expand trade and economic cooperation, implement joint infrastructure and logistics projects, and strengthen cultural and humanitarian collaboration.
