A significant environmental incident has been reported in Uzbekistan after oil products leaked into a river in the Baysun area, prompting an official investigation and a multi-billion soum compensation order.
The leak occurred from a well operated by Surxan Gas Chemical Operating Company, resulting in contamination of nearby water resources, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The company will pay 8.5 billion soums in compensation for the environmental damage caused by the spill.
The affected water has been cleaned, while monitoring and restoration efforts continue in the area.
