China will assist Uzbekistan in developing a new early warning system for dust and sandstorms, as the two countries deepen cooperation on environmental protection.
The agreement was reached during a meeting on the sidelines of a regional ecological summit between Uzbekistan’s presidential environmental adviser and head of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov and China’s Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in environmental monitoring, including the use of satellite systems to track climate change, air quality monitoring, and joint scientific research.
Uzbekistan proposed several initiatives, such as creating a joint air quality laboratory and organizing an international environmental forum. China expressed support for these proposals and confirmed readiness to help implement them.
A key outcome of the talks was an agreement to introduce an early warning system for dust and sandstorms in Uzbekistan based on Chinese expertise.
The cooperation will also include training programs for Uzbek specialists and exchange visits to strengthen technical knowledge in environmental monitoring and climate science.
