Uzbekistan Stands Out for Strong Family Values and Stability

Uzbekistan continues to stand out in the region for its strong family values, with official data showing significantly lower divorce rates compared to many Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.

The country records around 175 divorces per 1,000 marriages - making its family institution one of the most stable in the region, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

By comparison, neighboring countries report much higher figures: approximately 328 in Kazakhstan and 289 in Kyrgyzstan. In some countries such as Moldova and Azerbaijan, the number ranges from 430 to as high as 640 divorces per 1,000 marriages.

Within Uzbekistan, the most stable regions include Kashkadarya, Khorezm, and Surkhandarya, while higher divorce rates are traditionally observed in the capital Tashkent and surrounding areas.

The country also maintains moderate birth rates. In 2025, Uzbekistan recorded 23.2 births per 1,000 people - a mid-range figure globally, but relatively strong within the CIS context.

For comparison, birth rates stand at 8.6 in Russia and 11.1 in Armenia, while Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan report levels of around 18-19 per 1,000.
