UAE Approves Uzbek Driver’s Licenses for Legal Use Without Extra Testing

The Interior Ministry of the United Arab Emirates has officially included Uzbekistan in its updated list of countries whose citizens can now legally drive in the UAE using their national driver’s licenses, eliminating the need for an International Driving Permit (IDP) or local driving tests.

Under the new policy, Uzbek nationals visiting the UAE on a tourist visa can operate vehicles or motorcycles by presenting a valid national license, without the need for additional documentation or permissions, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

For long-term residents-such as those moving to the UAE for work or study-the government has introduced a streamlined process to exchange national licenses for UAE-issued ones. Applicants must hold a residency visa, submit a notarized and translated copy of their license, pass a vision test, and pay a 600-dirham government fee ($141.10).

The entire procedure can be completed remotely via the UAE Interior Ministry’s digital platform, with the new license issued electronically or delivered to the applicant’s address.
