US President Donald Trump has announced that Uzbekistan Airways signed a major agreement with Boeing to purchase up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, in a deal valued at more than $8 billion.
President Trump congratulated Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and hailed the deal as a major boost for the US economy, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
“Today I want to congratulate President Mirziyoyev on signing a GREAT Deal with Boeing! Worth over $8 Billion Dollars, Uzbekistan Airways is purchasing 22,787 Dreamliners. This will create over 35,000 jobs in the United States,” Trump wrote.
The US president emphasized that Mirziyoyev is a “man of his word” and expressed hope for continued cooperation on a number of other projects.
According to a statement from Boeing, the agreement includes a firm order for 14 Boeing 787-9 aircraft, with options for an additional eight planes. The order is expected to significantly modernize Uzbekistan Airways’ long-haul fleet, enhancing the airline’s global competitiveness and connectivity.
The US Department of Commerce, which confirmed the signing took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, estimated the value of the contract at $8.5 billion. The department described it as "the largest commercial aviation agreement of its kind in Central Asia."
Boeing noted that the advanced fuel efficiency and passenger comfort of the 787 Dreamliner would support Uzbekistan Airways' plans to expand its international route network while reducing operating costs and environmental impact.
