Uzbekistan has marked a milestone in its diplomatic relations with Serbia by appointing its first-ever ambassador to the country.
Oybek Shakhavdinov, who has served as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Hungary since March 2024, will also be accredited as ambassador to Serbia, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
In addition, Shakhavdinov holds non-resident ambassadorial responsibilities for Slovenia, Croatia, and Montenegro.
During a recent visit to Belgrade, Shakhavdinov met with Branko Radovanović, Head of the Diplomatic Protocol Department of Serbia’s Foreign Ministry. The two officials discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Serbia.
The Serbian side warmly welcomed the appointment, noting that having an official Uzbek ambassador in Serbia would provide a new impetus to bilateral relations.
