Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has held a meeting with Director of the Poverty Global Department in the Prosperity Vertical at the World Bank Luis Felipe López-Calva in Namangan, during which both sides noted that the World Bank’s project portfolio in Uzbekistan has exceeded $14 billion.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in reducing poverty, the first Sustainable Development Goal, with both parties emphasizing the strong level of practical collaboration between Uzbekistan and the World Bank, The Caspian Post reports via the Uzbek president’s press service.
The World Bank has supported the development of a methodology for assessing poverty levels in the country, and a joint analysis of poverty and inequality indicators is currently underway.
The meeting also addressed initiatives under the “From Poverty to Prosperity” program, including job creation for women and youth, modernization of social infrastructure, tourism development, and private sector support. Special attention was given to medium-term development programs and preparations for the upcoming national population census.
