A new industrial collaboration between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan is taking shape in the Fergana region, where construction is underway on a $10 million cable manufacturing plant.
Located in the Dangara district, the facility is scheduled to be operational by December 2025, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
The plant, named Osiyo Kabellari, is a joint venture between Tajik entrepreneur Shukhradzhan Ashurmatov and Uzbek businesswoman Fotima Imamova. Situated on a 1-hectare site, the factory will produce both aluminum and copper wire, marking a key milestone in cross-border private sector cooperation.
Financed through direct foreign investment, the plant will have the capacity to manufacture up to 15,000 tons of copper wire and 1,700 tons of aluminum wire annually. Based on current estimates, the factory’s total output will be valued at approximately $21 million per year.
The project is also expected to generate around 100 permanent jobs, bolstering the local economy and supporting the region’s broader industrial development strategy. A portion of the production will be exported to Kyrgyzstan and other CIS markets, with first-phase export volumes projected at $1 million.
On July 18, Fergana regional governor Khayrullo Bozorov met with the project's investors to review progress and discuss the acceleration of construction efforts. He also addressed key infrastructure needs, including water, electricity, and gas supply, to ensure a smooth path to completion.
Tajik investors have already participated in cross-border manufacturing projects, but the Osiyo Kabellari initiative is viewed as a cornerstone in the long-term strategy to enhance economic integration and regional partnership between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
