Uzbekistan is set to launch a major commercial development worth tens of millions of dollars, as President Shavkat Mirziyoyev unveiled new plans to boost economic growth in the Fergana region.

During a high-level meeting held in Fergana, the president backed proposals to establish a free trade zone in the Andarkhon province of Beshariq district. The initiative is expected to accelerate business activity and attract new investment to the area, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

A key highlight of the plan is the construction of a large shopping complex valued at $70 million. The project will be built on the site of a former mechanical plant in the city of Kokand, transforming the location into a modern commercial hub.

Mirziyoyev also pointed to the region’s untapped tourism potential, noting that Fergana - known for its blend of historical landmarks and unique natural landscapes - could increase its flow of international visitors by two to three times.

The meeting brought together regional leaders, local officials, business representatives, and members of the public, who presented reports and shared proposals aimed at driving further socio-economic development across the region.
