Yandex Boosts Uzbek-Language Search with Neural Network Upgrade

Yandex Uzbekistan has announced the launch of an updated version of its Yandex Search service, now featuring neural network technology trained specifically on the Uzbek language.

This advancement marks a significant step forward in digital accessibility for Uzbek-speaking users, enhancing the search engine’s ability to interpret local-language queries, deliver precise results, and provide high-quality translations, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The newly integrated AI capabilities enable the system to better understand search intent in Uzbek, offering improved content discovery and even instant answers through a built-in chat interface. This update introduces a more intuitive and interactive experience, where users can receive brief, informative responses displayed directly above standard search results.

The platform can now translate online content from English and Russian into Uzbek with greater cultural and linguistic accuracy. As part of the upgrade, users have access to a growing database of 11.6 million Uzbek-language texts, including curated articles from Wikipedia and specialized content from Stack Overflow, a popular international platform for IT professionals.

A key innovation is the question-and-answer feature, powered by Yandex AI. When users type a query in either Uzbek or Russian, the system evaluates whether a direct response-synthesized from multiple sources-would be helpful. If enabled, the AI mode generates a concise answer using its neural networks, while also offering links for further reading and verification.

Examples of supported queries include: “What is Amir Temur known for?”, “Which Uzbek footballer plays for Manchester City?”, or “What makes Samarkand plov unique?”. The system also handles more open-ended questions, such as “What can I see in Bukhara in one day?”.

The chat interface allows users to ask follow-up questions, promoting deeper engagement with the subject matter. In addition, the AI can generate related questions to help users explore a topic in more depth.

With this upgrade, Yandex Search now understands natural, conversational Uzbek, meaning users are no longer required to use specific keywords or formal phrasing. The AI is also able to incorporate real-time information, even content posted just hours earlier, providing timely and relevant answers.

Each AI-generated answer includes source links, giving users the option to verify facts or explore topics further.
