Armenia Extends Pretrial Detention for Former Yerevan Mayor

Former Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan will remain in pretrial detention for an additional two months, Armenian authorities have confirmed.

The extension of Beglaryan’s detention was confirmed by the Prosecutor’s Office, The Caspian Post reports, citing Armenian media.

A criminal case had previously been launched against the former mayor over allegations that he unlawfully appropriated 27 properties in Yerevan, with their combined estimated value put at $40 million.

Beglaryan will remain in custody as the investigation into the alleged property-related offenses continues.
