The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia has approved, in its second reading, a draft law reducing the duration of compulsory military service by six months.
Under the new law, the term of mandatory service will decrease from 24 months to 18 months (1.5 years) for citizens drafted after January 1, 2026, The Caspian Post reports, citing Armenian media.
The reduction will not apply to those already serving as of that date.
The draft law was passed with 65 votes in favor, four against, and 20 abstentions.
