Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has launched proceedings after Anna Hakobyan, the wife of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, reported receiving threats following her public comments about domestic violence.

Hakobyan said she began receiving threatening messages on social media after speaking publicly about cases of family violence, adding that she now feels her safety is at risk, The Caspian Post reports via Sputnik Armenia.

She expressed hope that Armenia’s state authorities would be able to ensure her protection.

Hakobyan also urged women to speak openly about psychological, physical and sexual abuse, stressing that domestic violence affects women regardless of their political views, education or social status.

The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed that proceedings have been initiated based on Hakobyan’s complaint but did not disclose additional details about the case.
