The US spent about $7.5 million on a program supporting media organizations, journalists and content creators in Armenia.

The Media Program in Armenia was launched in 2023 with a planned budget of $15 million and was initially scheduled to run through 2028, according to spbdnevnik.ru.

Internews, which implemented the USAID-funded program with local and international partners, described its goal as strengthening the media information environment and supporting journalistic standards.

According to Internews' December 2024 figures, the program had supported 59 media outlets, provided training to 338 media representatives, and helped media outlets, influencers and bloggers produce 805 pieces of content.

The funding was provided through Internews, an international nonprofit organization that works on media development. The program included assistance related to digital security, legal and psychosocial support, media literacy, content production and organizational development.

The program was affected by the broader review of US foreign assistance initiated after Donald Trump returned to the White House. Funding for Internews' grant supporting the Armenian media program was terminated on March 1, 2025.

Internews' own materials published in early 2025 still listed the program's original $15 million budget and 2023-2028 timeline, while Armenian media organizations reported the suspension of US financial support in February 2025.
