Azerbaijan Advances Construction of Nakhchivan–Zangazur Railway Link

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC is continuing work on the railway project that will link the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with the Zangazur Corridor.

The construction is currently underway along the first 7-kilometer section from the Azerbaijan-Armenia border toward Ordubad, Report informed.

The railway will be 194 kilometers long along its main axis and 264 kilometers including sidings. A total of 814 engineering structures are planned along the route, including 10 stations, 3 platforms, 29 bridges and 11 overpasses.

Earthworks have already been completed along 6 kilometers, while new rail-and-sleeper frames have been installed along a 700-meter section starting from Salammalik station.

Following reconstruction, the railway is expected to have an annual freight capacity of 15 million tons.

The reconstructed railway network in Nakhchivan will connect to the Zangazur corridor from the Ordubad direction, while the Horadiz-Aghband railway will connect to the corridor from mainland Azerbaijan. The project is intended to establish a direct railway link between mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan, as well as a direct railway connection with Türkiye.
