A new round of consultations on consular cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom is set to take place in London before the end of 2025, according to UK Minister of State for Europe, North America, and Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty
Speaking in comments shared by the British Embassy in Baku, Doughty noted that consular cooperation between Baku and London is developing in parallel with the strengthening of ties between the peoples of the two countries, The Caspian Post reports citing local media.
Highlighting the overall successful progress in bilateral cooperation, Doughty emphasized that security collaboration represents another key pillar.
“In today’s world of complex threats, our cooperation in the fields of defense, cybersecurity, counter-narcotics, and regional stability is more important than ever. I would like to thank Azerbaijan for its support to British citizens during the recent tensions (between Israel and Iran - ed.). We deeply appreciate your assistance,” Doughty said.
He also underlined the importance of establishing long-term peace in the South Caucasus as a crucial condition for the region’s future prosperity:
“I congratulate Azerbaijan on the bold steps taken in Washington (on August 8 - ed.) toward peace. This is a moment of real hope for a more stable and prosperous South Caucasus, and the United Kingdom is ready to support Azerbaijan in turning this hope into a long-term reality.”
It should be noted that the day before, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received Doughty. In addition, the British minister held a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and took part in the latest round of inter-ministerial political consultations.
