Azerbaijan Elected to UN-Habitat Executive Board

For the first time, Azerbaijan has been elected as a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) during the UN Habitat Assembly session held on May 30 in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

The UN-Habitat Executive Board is the main decision-making body of the UN-Habitat that operates between the sessions of the Programme, comprising 36 member states elected by the UN-Habitat Assembly, The Caspian Post reports citing Azertac.

Azerbaijan’s membership in this prestigious UN body will cover the years 2025-2029.

The cooperation between UN-Habitat, which specializes in sustainable urbanization and human settlements, and Azerbaijan has been developing dynamically in recent years. A prime example of this collaboration was the holding of the UN-Habitat World Habitat Day in Azerbaijan in 2023. Additionally, Azerbaijan will host the 13th session of the globally significant UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) on May 17-22, 2026.
