Azerbaijan's Khankendi, Romania's Baia Mare Establish Sister-City Relations

On September 17, Elchin Yusubov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi and the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, and Ioan Doru Dăncuș, Mayor of Romania’s Baia Mare, signed a Protocol of Intent on establishing sister-city relations between the cities of Khankendi and Baia Mare.

Baia Mare Mayor Ioan Doru Dăncuș noted that this initiative would elevate cooperation between the two cities to a new level, The Caspian Post reports, citing AZERTAC.

According to him, the initiative envisages new economic and investment opportunities, establishing direct contacts between representatives of business circles, implementing joint projects between local administrations, as well as advancing cooperation in culture, education, and tourism.

Special Representative Elchin Yusubov emphasized the existing relations between Azerbaijan and Romania are grounded in deep historical roots, mentioning that Romania was the first European country to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence.

Elchin Yusubov noted that this document provides for cooperation between Khankendi, one of the major cities in Garabagh, and European cities for Khankendi, which is one of the key cities of Garabagh.
