Azerbaijani boxer Saidjamshid Jafarov delivered a commanding performance to win gold at the World Boxing Cup in Guiyang, China.
Competing in the 75 kg division, Jafarov faced Bulgaria’s Rami Kiwan in the championship bout and left no doubt about the outcome. The Azerbaijani star controlled all three rounds on his way to a unanimous 5-0 victory, with judges scoring the contest 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28, The Caspian Post reports via Azertac.
Jafarov’s triumph secured Azerbaijan’s only gold medal at the prestigious tournament, which brought together around 300 boxers from 40 countries and served as the second ranking event of the year on the international calendar.
Azerbaijan’s national team concluded the competition with three medals overall. Earlier, Murad Allahverdiyev (80 kg) and Alfonso Dominguez (90 kg) added bronze medals after reaching the semifinals in their respective weight classes.
