Suspect in Azerbaijani Man’s Killing Remains in Kyiv's Jail

The investigation into the killing of a young Azerbaijani man and the wounding of his father in Ukraine's capital Kyiv is ongoing, with the accused remaining in custody and not sent to the front lines.

Kyiv Region Prosecutor Dmytro Prokudin has denied circulating claims that the suspect was allegedly deployed to the front instead of facing criminal charges, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

Prokudin said that the accused is currently being held in a pretrial detention center, while court proceedings in the case are continuing.

He noted that the indictment under Article 115.2 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code - covering attempted premeditated murder, the intentional killing of two people, and illegal handling of weapons - has been submitted to the Fastiv District Court of the Kyiv Region. A preparatory court hearing has already taken place, and the suspect’s detention has been extended until January 25, 2026.

“At the first court hearing, the procedure for examining evidence was determined, including written materials, as well as the questioning of witnesses, victims, and the accused. The next hearing is scheduled for January 22, 2026,” the prosecutor said.

The incident occurred on August 31, 2025, in the city of Fastiv, Kyiv Region. A local resident, identified as Oleksandr Ivanenko, opened fire with a firearm on Azerbaijani citizens Farman Rahimov and his son Ismayil Rahimov, who were selling fruits and vegetables. As a result of the attack, the son was killed, while the father sustained serious injuries.
