A devastating traffic accident in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku has claimed the lives of three people after a heavy truck lost control and plunged off a bridge, crashing onto several vehicles below.
The incident occurred around 09:30 a.m. (GMT+4) at the Bilajari roundabout in Baku’s Binagadi district, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
A truck bearing license plate 72-CA-837 veered off the bridge and fell directly onto a Changan passenger car with plate 90-ZY-012, causing extensive damage and multiple casualties.
Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the incident. TABİB, the Management Union of Medical Territorial Units, reported that five ambulance teams were dispatched following an emergency call received at 09:40 a.m.
Toghrul Mehdiyev, head of the Special Risk Rescue Service at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations, two bodies were extracted from the wreckage of vehicles crushed by the truck. A third victim-a 47-year-old man-was hospitalized in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries despite resuscitation efforts at the Clinical Medical Center.
Three other individuals-two women and one man-were also taken to hospital. The women, 23 and 25, sustained chest trauma and abdominal wall injuries but were later discharged for outpatient treatment.
The State Traffic Police has confirmed the details of the crash and stated that a formal investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances and causes behind the truck’s loss of control.
