US President Donald Trump is set to host Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders at the White House on August 8 in a bid to broker a peace deal between the two nations, which have been embroiled in a prolonged conflict for decades.
The meeting was confirmed by two senior White House officials speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the discussions, marks the latest effort by the president to resolve international disputes-and potentially claim credit for a historic agreement, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.
There is speculation that a peace deal could be unveiled during the visit as Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan are scheduled to meet individually with Trump.
Last month, the two leaders held talks in the United Arab Emirates; however, no formal resolution was reached, despite earlier reports of a tentative agreement being drafted earlier this year.
