UK Ambassador Summarizes 2025 Ties with Azerbaijan

UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Auld has published a New Year video message summarizing the key developments in the UK-Azerbaijan relations in 2025.

Auld noted at the outset that this was his final New Year address as UK ambassador to Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post reports via Auld's message on Instagram.

The ambassador said that the main event of 2025 had been the decision by Minister of State Stephen Doughty and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to elevate bilateral relations through the signing of a Strategic Partnership Agreement. He added that in December, Minister of State in the Defense Ministry Lord Vernon Coaker and UK Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan and Central Asia, Lord John Alderdice, had held bilateral meetings focused on defense and security, trade and investment, as well as education and innovation.

Auld also highlighted his visit to Lachin and the city of Shusha, describing the trip as unparalleled.

The ambassador said that the strategic partnership they had built was not limited to formal agreements between governments, but also involved businesses driving growth, Azerbaijani students gaining unique experience at British universities, and new friendships forming between the two cultures. He added that he looked forward to what the new year would bring.
