Victims of January 20 Tragedy Remembered in Paris

The Embassy of Azerbaijan in France, together with the Association of Friends of Azerbaijan, organized a commemorative event in Paris to honor the 20 January tragedy.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to France Leyla Abdullayeva highlighted the bloody events that occurred on the night of January 19-20, 1990, The Caspian Post reports, citing AZERTAC.

The ambassador emphasized that the January 20 tragedy is not only a day of mourning, but also the beginning of Azerbaijan’s path to state independence. She noted that this path led to the historic Victory with the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in 2020. During the 44-day Patriotic War, the Azerbaijani Army, under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, liberated the occupied territories and fulfilled the people’s 30-year dream of justice and sovereignty.

The diplomat also stressed that following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in 2020, new realities have emerged in the region, with the peace agenda coming to the fore.

Addressing the event, Jérôme Begen, the newly elected President of the Association of Friends of Azerbaijan (ADA), briefed attendees on the organization’s activities, emphasizing the importance of promoting Azerbaijani culture and expanding its membership.

The event concluded with performances of music by Azerbaijani and European composers.
