An explosion has occurred on the underground Central Asia-Center gas pipeline in Russia’s Penza Region.

The incident took place near the village of Volchkovo. A column of flames reportedly rose about 70 meters above the explosion site. After the gas supply was shut off, grass nearby caught fire, according to Lenta.ru.

No deaths or injuries have been reported. The cause of the explosion remains unknown.

The Central Asia-Center pipeline system connects gas fields in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan with Russia and Europe. The route stretches approximately 5,000 kilometers.

In a separate incident earlier this year, an explosion occurred on a main gas pipeline in Kizilyurt, in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan. One person was injured, and residents of nearby settlements had to be evacuated.
