Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have discussed expanding transport and logistics cooperation, including increasing the transit of Kazakh energy resources through Azerbaijan.

The matter was discussed during a meeting between Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov and Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alim Bayel, The Caspian Post reports, citing the official website of the Kazakh government.

The meeting also addressed plans to establish a joint intermodal terminal at the Port of Alat, supply Azerbaijani operators with Kazakh locomotives and railcars, build vessels for Kazakhstan at the Baku Shipyard, and further develop the joint Baku Grain Terminal at the Port of Hovsan.

The sides exchanged views on increasing the transit of Kazakh energy resources through Azerbaijan, as well as expanding cooperation in trade, investment and economic affairs.

Particular attention was paid to advancing joint projects and strengthening economic and industrial ties through the joint investment fund established in 2024.

The sides noted that establishing joint production facilities could help increase trade turnover between the two countries.

Bayel highlighted the strong momentum in bilateral relations and expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for supporting Kazakhstan’s initiative to raise the status of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

Sharifov, in turn, said he would make every effort to further deepen trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

Since 2026, the commission has been co-chaired by Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Nurlibek Nalybayev and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov.
