The Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO) participated in the 1st International Textile and Light Industry Forum in Tajikistan, organized by the country’s Ministry of Industry and New Technologies.
The forum, which convened representatives from over 50 countries, aimed to foster international collaboration, investment, and knowledge exchange within the textile and apparel sectors, The Caspian Post reports, citing AZERTAC.
During the ministerial panel, key speakers included Christian Schindler, Director General of the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF); Sherali Kabir, Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan; Sanzhar Bolotov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan; Yusif Abdullayev, Executive Director of AZPROMO; and Davide Maccabruni, President of the Swiss Textile Machinery Association. They highlighted global trends and the development prospects of the textile industry.
The panel also discussed the potential for strengthening Azerbaijan-Tajikistan cooperation in the textile sector, including the development of a bilateral roadmap in the industrial field.
As part of the forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Azerbaijan Textile Association and the Cotton and Textile Association of Tajikistan. The MoU outlines joint initiatives aimed at the development of the textile industry, including sustainable agriculture, sericulture, and trade.
During the Azerbaijani delegation’s working visit to Tajikistan, several meetings were held with local organizations. In discussions with Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies Aziz Nazar and Chairperson of the Cotton and Textile Association Umed Shomurodov, the sides reviewed the current state of industrial cooperation and identified future areas for development.
At a separate meeting with ITMF Director General Christian Schindler and Swiss Textile Machinery Association President Davide Maccabruni, discussions focused on Azerbaijan’s potential membership in ITMF and opportunities this would create. They also explored the integration of advanced technologies into the production sector and strategies to promote regional partnerships. ITMF representatives were invited to Baku to explore prospects for hosting future events in Azerbaijan.
