A Chinese company is set to invest $500 million in the development of a major transport and logistics corridor in Uzbekistan’s Andijan region, according to the regional administration’s press service.

On August 24, regional governor Shukhratbek Abdurakhmanov held talks with the investor and partners from China Shandong Huada Group. The parties discussed attracting foreign direct investment and implementing major infrastructure projects in Andijan region.

In particular, an agreement was reached to establish a railway and road route worth $500 million in the Kurgantepa and Khojaabad districts.

According to the proposed map, the route will begin in Lhasa (Tibet Autonomous Region, China), pass through the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, then through Andijan, Tashkent, and Jizzakh, before ending in Samarkand. A logistics facility is planned to be built at the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan border in Andijan region.

After the talks, Chinese investors visited the land plots designated for the projects and reviewed them on site. The cooperation is expected to boost the region’s transport and logistics potential, create new jobs, and contribute to economic development.
