Russia's gold reserves have dropped to their lowest level in years.
According to data released by the Bank of Russia, the country's gold reserves stood at 73.4 million troy ounces as of July 1, 2026, The Caspian Post reports.
A month earlier, on June 1, the reserves totaled 73.7 million troy ounces, while on May 1 they amounted to 73.9 million ounces. The June reading marked the lowest level recorded since February 2020.
The World Gold Council reported that central banks worldwide increased their gold reserves by a combined 41 tonnes in May 2026.
In contrast, the Bank of Russia continued reducing its gold holdings, selling an additional 6 tonnes during the month. Since the start of 2026, Russia has sold a total of 34 tonnes of gold, bringing its overall reserves down to 2,292 tonnes, according to the Council.
