Turkish Airlines Set to Build World’s Largest Cargo Terminal

Türkiye’s flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, announced on Friday that it will invest 100 billion Turkish liras (over $2.3 billion) to build the world’s largest cargo terminal and in-flight catering facility.

The airline said the projects will create 26,000 new jobs, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkish media.

“Türkiye is growing, Turkish Airlines is soaring,” the carrier wrote on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, adding, “As Türkiye’s flagship brand, this pride makes us proud.”

The location of the new facilities has not been specified, but Istanbul - Türkiye’s commercial hub and home to two major international airports - is the likely site.

Istanbul-based Turkish Airlines is among the largest airlines globally, carrying more than 85 million passengers and two million tons of cargo annually.

CEO Bilal Eksi said on Tuesday that Turkish Airlines aims to be among the world’s top five airlines by 2033, when its fleet is expected to reach 813 aircraft. As of the end of 2025, the airline operates a fleet of 514 planes.
