China Energy to Invest Over $1 Billion in Kazakhstan’s Renewable Projects

China Energy will invest more than $1 billion in Kazakhstan to develop large-scale solar and wind power projects, the Kazakh Ministry of Energy announced.

The decision followed a meeting on October 24 between Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov and China Energy President Qiao Xubin, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

The projects include a 300 MW solar power plant in the Turkistan region and a 500 MW wind power plant in the Karaganda region. Both initiatives are being implemented under the Intergovernmental Agreement on Renewable Energy signed during the COP-29 climate conference.

“Partnership with China Energy is an example of successful investment cooperation that brings not only capital but also advanced technologies to Kazakhstan,” Minister Akkenzhenov said. “These projects represent our shared contribution to carbon neutrality and open opportunities for further cooperation in energy storage and smart grid development.”

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership and exploring new collaboration areas in energy, digitalization, and innovation.
