Georgia Boosts Chicken Egg Imports Amid Rising Prices

Georgia sharply increased chicken egg imports in the first quarter of 2026, bringing in 11.1 million table eggs worth $847,000 after recording no imports in the same category a year earlier.

Türkiye became the main supplier, exporting nearly 10 million eggs worth $742,700. Belarus also supplied around 1 million eggs valued at $104,300, The Caspian Post reports via Georgian media.

At the same time, imports of hatching eggs declined to 2.1 million units from 3 million during the same period last year, with Türkiye remaining the only supplier in that category.

The shift comes after domestic egg production in Georgia fell in late 2025, while reports of shortages appeared in stores. Rising feed costs, higher wages, distribution expenses, and energy prices also pushed egg prices sharply higher.

Despite a temporary 5% price cut introduced earlier this year, Georgia now has some of the highest egg prices among neighboring countries, with producers warning of another increase this spring.
