Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the country continues to experience strong economic growth, noting that sustaining this momentum will remain a key priority for the government.

Speaking at a government meeting, Kobakhidze said economic growth was also linked to efforts to eliminate corruption, Georgia Today reports.

"We had a good indicator in June - economic growth stood at 8.6%. The average growth rate for the six-month period reached 7.9%, which means that we are maintaining a high pace of economic growth, and this will remain one of our main priorities in the future as well," Kobakhidze said.

He noted that international financial institutions had raised their initial growth forecasts for Georgia, describing this as an important development.

"These results are, on the one hand, the outcome of successful economic policies and, on the other hand, the result of our success in eliminating corruption at the highest levels of government," the prime minister said.

Kobakhidze added that efforts to combat corruption at lower levels would continue, while describing the changes already introduced in the governance system as a "fundamental transformation".

"Maintaining a high pace of economic growth is also linked to the elimination of corruption, in addition to successful economic policies," he said, thanking Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and his team for their work.

Kobakhidze also said that Georgia's foreign exchange reserves were increasing alongside economic growth, with the National Bank of Georgia actively working in this direction.
