The Counterterrorism Center of Georgia’s State Security Service has detained two Georgian citizens over ties to the Islamic State terrorist organization.

The special operation was carried out in the municipalities of Gardabani and Kareli, according to Sputnik Georgia.

According to investigators, the suspects joined the terrorist group, pledged allegiance to its leader and expressed unconditional obedience to him.

During searches, police officers seized a written pledge of allegiance, various types of ammunition, a hand grenade and electronic devices.

If convicted, the detainees could face 10 to 17 years in prison.
