An investigation has been launched in Georgia's capital Tbilisi following reports of suspected poisoning at several kindergartens.
Some 55 children and one kindergarten staff member from 20 preschool facilities developed symptoms of intoxication and sought medical attention at six medical institutions across the capital, according to Sputnik Georgia.
As part of the investigation, investigators interviewed parents and doctors. Investigators also conducted overnight searches at four kindergartens and at companies supplying food products to preschool facilities.
According to the preliminary investigation, the cases may be linked to a bacterial infection, potentially originating from food consumed at the kindergartens.
The medical experts have not yet identified the specific food product responsible. Further laboratory tests are expected to determine the source of the suspected poisoning.
