Georgia is prepared to reset its relations with the United States and expects reciprocal actions from President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, according to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
"Our goal is to reset relations with the US from the very beginning, to renew the strategic partnership. We are absolutely open and ready for this and we hope that we will see effective reciprocal steps under the new [US] administration," Kobakhidze said, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.
On November 30, the US State Department announced that the United States had suspended its strategic partnership with Georgia after Georgian Prime Minister announced on November 28 that the ruling party, Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia, had decided not to put the issue of EU accession talks on the agenda until the end of 2028 and to refuse any budgetary support from the Community.
Trump's inauguration will be held on January 20, 2025. The Georgian leadership has repeatedly stated that it hopes for a change for the better in relations with both the US and the EU after Trump takes office.
