The Georgian Foreign Ministry summoned UK Ambassador Gareth Ward on Friday to express concern over sanctions imposed by the British government on Georgian officials.
According to a statement from the ministry, Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, who hosted the meeting, criticized the UK's actions as harmful to the historically friendly relations between the two countries, The Caspian Post reports.
She emphasized the need for “objective and impartial assessments” of Georgia’s internal developments and warned against measures that could harm diplomatic relations.
Georgian officials expressed hope for a "restoration of positive cooperation" between the foreign ministers of both nations.
The sanctions, announced the previous day, targeted Vakhtang Gomelauri, the Interior Minister of Georgia, and four other law enforcement officials.
