Georgia is preparing to simplify the process of obtaining temporary residence permits for foreign professionals working in the information technology sector.

The proposed changes to the country’s Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons would expand access to temporary residence permits for several categories of foreign nationals, according to bm.ge.

Under the amendments, eligibility would include foreign IT specialists, individuals holding managerial or representative positions in international IT companies, as well as foreign nationals registered as individual entrepreneurs with small-business status.

The proposed changes are aimed at addressing practical difficulties faced by international IT companies when hiring foreign specialists, according to the draft legislation.

The government expects the simplified residency procedure to make it easier for global technology companies operating in Georgia to recruit and retain international talent.

Georgia currently has 179 organizations holding international company status, highlighting the growing role of internationally oriented businesses in the country’s economy.
