The corruption trial of former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili will be held in public after a court rejected the prosecution’s request to conduct the hearings behind closed doors.
Prosecutors had sought closed hearings, arguing that questioning current and former officials could lead to the disclosure of state secrets and information protected by professional confidentiality, according to Sputnik Georgia.
Garibashvili is accused of receiving a bribe of 750,000 lari ($289,000) linked to funds associated with military tenders.
Former Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze is also involved in the case. He has already been convicted and has testified against the former prime minister.
Garibashvili was previously convicted in a separate money-laundering case. Under a plea agreement, he was sentenced to five years in prison.
