Former Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has been transferred to Rustavi Penitentiary No. 12 after a court approved a plea agreement.
Under the agreement, Garibashvili was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. As an additional penalty, the court imposed a fine of 1 million GEL and ordered the confiscation of funds obtained through criminal activity, including money seized during the search of his residence, The Caspian Post reports, citing Georgia Today.
Based on a statement released by the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, Garibashvili admitted to the offense stipulated under Part 3 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Georgia and agreed to the terms of the plea agreement. The court granted the Prosecutor’s Office’s motion, thereby formalizing the sentence and associated penalties.
