Azerbaijan and Iran have reviewed progress on major bilateral economic, transport and infrastructure projects, including the completion of a key road bridge and ongoing work at the Astara cargo terminal.

The discussions took place during a phone call between the co-chairs of the Azerbaijan-Iran State Commission on Economic, Trade and Humanitarian Cooperation - Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh, according to Report.

The officials assessed the implementation of agreements outlined in the memorandum of understanding adopted at the commission’s 17th meeting in Baku in February 2026.

The sides highlighted successful cooperation in trade, the economy, transport and transit, energy and water management, while reviewing progress on joint projects.

Particular attention was given to the completion of the Aghband-Kelaleh highway bridge, a project expected to strengthen transport links between Azerbaijan and Iran.

The officials also discussed measures needed to complete work on the cargo terminal in Astara, an important point for cross-border freight and regional transit.
