A high-level Azerbaijani delegation has arrived in Tehran to attend the official farewell ceremony for Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The delegation landed in the Iranian capital and was welcomed at the airport by Iranian officials, The Caspian Post reports via APA.
The Azerbaijani delegation includes Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Sahiba Gafarova, Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, Prime Minister of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Jabbar Musayev, and other senior officials.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 alongside close family members during a joint US-Israeli attack on Tehran. He was later succeeded by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei.
The official farewell ceremonies are scheduled to take place on July 4-5 at Tehran's Mosalla complex before the body is transferred to the holy city of Qom.
In accordance with his reported will, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei is expected to be buried in Mashhad on July 9 following the conclusion of the mourning ceremonies.
