Iranian authorities have lifted a ban on the use of foreign messaging applications by government agencies, Fatemeh Mohajerani, spokesperson for the government of the Islamic Republic, announced.

“One of the decisions made in recent days-which has helped us secure a stronger position in the media war-is the lifting of the ban on government institutions operating on foreign messaging platforms,” she said at a press conference, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

Mohajerani stressed that the decision does not mean official correspondence will be conducted through these applications.

She noted that in the past, some documents had occasionally appeared on foreign messaging platforms.

According to the spokesperson, the main purpose of the move is “to enable a rapid response to emerging doubts and planted stories, as well as to effectively counter the psychological operations and information warfare” being waged against Iran.
