The Iranian Navy has detected and identified an oil tanker that caught fire in the eastern Strait of Hormuz while attempting to navigate a prohibited area in violation of regulations.

According to the Iranian Navy on Friday, the tanker had switched off its tracking systems and was attempting to pass through the restricted area east of the Strait of Hormuz, The Caspian Post reports, citing IRNA.

The Iranian Navy warned that uncoordinated movements along prohibited routes and through restricted areas could undermine security and pose serious risks to other vessels.
