Iran’s parliamentary Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy has approved an amendment to a bill on strategic measures concerning the Strait of Hormuz, setting out how revenues from shipping oversight would be used.

Under the amendment, the funds would be allocated to providing food vouchers to the population, strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and developing infrastructure, particularly in areas affected by the war, The Caspian Post reports, citing Sepahnews.

Part of the revenue would also be used to develop strategic islands and maritime infrastructure, reinforce air defense systems and improve living conditions for military personnel.

Tehran had previously said that revenues generated from overseeing shipping in the Strait of Hormuz could help compensate for losses resulting from the war.
