Iran is ready to participate in the construction of an oil refinery in Kyrgyzstan, opening the door to deeper energy and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, according to 24kg.

Under the proposed cooperation, Iran could supply crude oil to the planned refinery, while the petroleum products produced by the facility would be distributed between the two countries.

The initiative could strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s energy security while creating new opportunities for Iran to expand its economic presence in Central Asia.

Pezeshkian also proposed establishing a Kyrgyz logistics center at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port, potentially giving Kyrgyz businesses greater access to international trade routes.

In turn, Japarov invited Iranian oil exploration companies to participate in projects in Kyrgyzstan, signaling interest in expanding cooperation across the energy sector.
