Iran is prepared to return to a diplomatic settlement of its conflict with the United States if Washington demonstrates that it is serious about its intentions, a senior Iranian source said.
“The ball is in the US court. It is better to return to diplomacy, but we need to see a genuine desire from the United States to return to peace,” the source said, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.
He added that regardless of the document Washington seeks to sign, the US must demonstrate that it respects the commitments and signatures of both sides.
“The US must convince the mediators and Iran of its sincerity,” he said.
According to the source, Tehran continues to regard negotiations on the nuclear issue as possible. However, such talks could resume only after the full implementation of the Islamabad agreement, which provides for the unfreezing of Iranian assets and the lifting of restrictions on the country’s oil exports.
