Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi met on Friday to discuss strategies for advancing the US-Iran talks set to take place later in the day.

During this meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral and regional issues, including the Iran-US nuclear negotiations, The Caspian Post reports, citing IRNA.

Referring to the Islamic Republic of Iran's approach of employing diplomacy to secure Iran's national interests, while maintaining full readiness to defend the country's sovereignty and national security against any excessive demands and adventurism, Araghchi expressed his appreciation for Oman's hosting and its benevolent efforts (good offices) in this regard.

Araghchi arrived at Muscat Airport early this morning and was welcomed by Omani officials. He is accompanied on this trip by Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy for Political Affairs; Esmaeil Baqaei, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson; Hamid Ghanbari, Deputy for Economic Affairs; and several other Iranian diplomats.

As announced by the Iranian Foreign Minister, the new round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States will take place this morning in Muscat.

According to the US officials, Steve Witkoff, the US President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and assistant, will represent the United States in the talks with Iran.

Witkoff arrived in Muscat a few hours before the Iranian delegation.

This round of nuclear talks is taking place amidst the US military buildup in the region and threats and claims made against Iran, which threaten regional security.

The Islamic Republic of Iran sits at the negotiating table with the US while bearing in mind the bitter experience of five previous rounds of negotiations with Washington, which were ultimately halted by the military attack of the Israeli regime and the United States on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Therefore, the issue of trust remains Iran’s most significant challenge in this round of talks.
