The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed that recent attacks on US bank branches were carried out in response to American strikes on two Iranian banks.
An IRGC spokesperson warned: “If the enemy repeats this action, all US bank branches in the region will become legitimate targets”, The Caspian Post reports via Iranian media.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is a branch of Iran’s armed forces established after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Its primary role is to protect the country’s Islamic system and prevent internal or external threats to the government.
Unlike Iran’s regular military, the IRGC has broad influence across politics, the economy, and foreign operations, including controlling paramilitary units and strategic industries. It also oversees the Quds Force, responsible for Iran’s extraterritorial military operations.
Over the years, the IRGC has become a central player in regional conflicts, supporting allied groups in countries such as Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen, and is often designated as a key actor in Iran’s strategic military planning.
